The Center for Inclusive Excellence in Graduate Education (CIE) strives to connect undergraduate and graduate students with opportunities and information about graduate education; advocate for the value of inclusion and equity in academia; work to remove barriers to graduate education for all students; and engage with the internal and external campus community to support a diverse campus community.
Currently, CIE provides programs to prepare undergraduate students for graduate education, to support the academic success of current students, and to offer resources and guidance for graduate recruitment and retention professionals at MU.
TigerView
CIE’s outreach to help increase inclusion and equity in graduate education.
The TigerView campus visitation program brings prospective graduate students with a serious interest in pursuing a graduate degree at Mizzou to our campus for a two-day visit filled with workshops, informational presentations, visits with campus resources and programs, and networking opportunities.
Every fall semester, CIE sponsors a campus visitation program for prospective students who are genuinely interested in pursuing graduate school and have an interest in one of MU’s graduate programs. Travel expenses, accommodations, and meals during their time in Columbia, MO are provided by the program.

CIE supports a selected cohort of incoming underrepresented graduate students.
The First-Year Scholars Program (previously First-Year Fellows) is designed to ensure that the Graduate School’ Marshall, Ridgel, Carver, and McNair Fellowship recipients are provided with essential tools, information, and resources needed to enhance their successful pursuit and completion of a graduate program.
The First-Year Scholars Program is designed to help ensure that the Graduate School’ Marshall, Ridgel, and McNair Fellowship recipients are provided with essential tools, information, and resources needed to enhance their successful pursuit and completion of a graduate program. Additionally, the program supports TigerView Alumni. More specifically, through monthly seminars and various activities throughout the academic year, the program seeks to:
- Equip students with the basic skills required to make a comfortable transition into the graduate school culture
- Provide students with information on requirements and expectations in their department and the Graduate School
- Introduce students to specific protocols necessary for success in their program of study
- Familiarize students with available University and departmental resources, key personnel and support networks, and the means to access them
- Connect students with other graduate students from underrepresented groups, student organizations, administrators, and faculty at MU

The Glimpse into Graduate School Seminar Program provides current undergraduate students with the resources, programming, and support that are necessary to achieve their aspirations for graduate study.
The Glimpse into Graduate School Seminar Program is an initiative that provides current undergraduate students with the resources, programming, and support that are necessary to achieve their aspirations for graduate study. The goal of the program is to empower students to develop the confidence and skills necessary for success in applying to competitive graduate programs and a comfortable transition to graduate education. Selected participants will attend seminars and workshops and complete assignments that encompass a wide array of topics.
The program also provides students who miss no more than one Glimpse seminar session and/or assignment (or combination as described in the syllabus) are eligible for an application fee waiver for graduate school at the University of Missouri. Also, students who attend all Glimpse sessions and complete all required assignments will be eligible to receive a one-time refund of the cost of a standardized test required for admission to a graduate program. In the case of the GRE (Graduate Record Examination), this refund does not include any costs students may incur for General Subject tests, late fees, or test date change fees. In order to receive a refund for the standardized test, students must provide proof that the test has been taken. Tests must be taken within six months to 1 year of completing the program, and the student is responsible for keeping the program informed of when they intend to take the test.
